PELLA—The Central College men’s track and field team upped its ranking to No. 6 in this week’s U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division III outdoor national rankings released Wednesday.

The Dutch, who placed 22nd at the NCAA Division III 2013 Outdoor Track & Field Championships, opened the season ranked No. 8. Central finished 10th at this year’s national indoor championship meet behind its national championship distance medley relay team.

Junior pole vaulter Nick Lemmon (Auburn, Wash., Kent-Meridian HS) was also a fourth-place finisher, clearing 12-5.5. Freshman high jumper Logan Mulford (Mount Pleasant) matched their feat, clearing 6-2.75.

The top four remained unchanged, led by the 2013 outdoor national champion Wis.-La Crosse and followed by Wis.-Eau Claire, Wis.-Oshkosh and Wis.-Whitewater at Nos. 2-4. Whittier (Calif.) jumped two spots to No. 5, followed by the Dutch, No. 7 Whitworth (Wash.), No. 8 Mount Union (Ohio), No. 9 MIT (Mass.) and No. 10 Christopher Newport (Va.). Wartburg, the only other Iowa Conference school in the top 25, dropped one spot to No. 12.
