2012 Iowa Conference champions
PELLA — The Central College baseball team is hosting a winter clinic Monday, Dec. 30, to benefit players of all ages in every aspect of the game.
Two morning sessions will be offered for players age 7-12 with two afternoon sessions for players age 13-18. For players age 7-12, Session 1 on defense and pitching is set for 9-11 a.m. with a hitting clinic from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. For players age 13-18, Session 3 on defense and pitching is slated for 2-4 p.m. with a hitting clinic from 4-6 p.m.
Registration information can be found online at www.central.edu/athletics/camps. The cost is $30 for one session or $50 for two.
Defense and pitching clinic participants will learn drills for year-round practice, proper fielding, throwing and pitching mechanics and strength and conditioning programs for pitchers.
The hitting clinic includes hitting drills for year-round practice, instruction of proper hitting mechanics, plate discipline, strike zone knowledge, bunting and baserunning instruction.
Participants will need a glove and hat and must wear tennis or gym shoes. Catchers must provide their own equipment.
The school will be led by Dutch head coach Adam Stevens with Central players and staff. Stevens, a two-time Iowa Conference coach of the year and the 2012 D3baseball.com all-region coach of the year, who piloted Central to the 2012 league championship. The Dutch have averaged 25 wins a season over the past four years.
The clinic will be held at H.S. Kuyper Fieldhouse. The facility houses four indoor batting cages, indoor pitching mounds and a full indoor field.
