PELLA—Central College landed 41 student-athletes on the fall sports Iowa Conference all-academic team.

Among the Dutch standouts are six student-athletes with a 4.0 grade point average (on a 4.0 scale): football sophomores Taylor Cox (Pella), Kyle Kroymann (Solon), Drew Lindaman (Ankeny) and Jake Wassenaar (Pella), women’s soccer junior Gabrielle Muse (Waukee) and women’s tennis sophomore Katie Todd (Cedar Falls).

The football team led the way with 13 honorees, while the women’s soccer team had seven and the men’s soccer team had six.

Senior cross country student-athlete Brent Ewing (Cincinnati, Centerville HS) and senior football student-athletes Nolan Blythe (Orange City, MOC-Floyd Valley HS) and JJ Kotz (Indianola) are three-time academic all-league selections.

To qualify for the distinction, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore in academic standing with one year at his/her current school, achieve a 3.5 GPA or better and compete at the varsity level.

The Dutch volleyball team received the American Volleyball Coaches Association Team Academic Award for a record 13th straight year for the 2012-13 academic year in early August, while both Dutch soccer teams received the National Soccer Coaches Association of America Team Academic Award for the 2012-13 academic year Thursday.

Central had the fifth-most honorees among league schools. Wartburg led the conference with 68 student-athletes on the team.

It is the fourth consecutive year the Dutch have had at least 41 recipients (most: 43, 2012).
