PELLA—The Central College Student Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC) is co-sponsoring a canned good drive at the Nov. 16 Dutch football game against Coe and the LifeServe Blood Drive Nov. 21.
SAAC is holding the canned good drive in conjunction with the Central Volunteer Center to kick off Hunger Week activities on campus. Fans are asked to bring canned goods to donate or make a free will donation to purchase a can to donate—through the generous contributions of Dave and Ardie Sutphen, Fareway and Walmart—at the gate to Ron and Joyce Schipper Stadium. The HIRTA bus company will supply a bus at the gate to load canned goods and drive student-athletes to four food banks next week—Helping Hands in Knoxville, Pella Community Food Shelf, Salvation Army in Newton and Grace Church in Newton.
SAAC is also partnering with LifeServe Blood Center—which provides blood and blood products to more than 90 hospitals located across Iowa, Nebraska and South Dakota—for the public blood drive. The drive is scheduled for 10 a.m.-4 p.m. at the Graham Annex on campus. Pella community members are encouraged to schedule appointments either online at lifeservebloodcenter.org or by emailing SAAC advisor Alicia O’Brien at firstname.lastname@example.org. Walk-ins are also welcome.
