Seven national top-10 team finishes
PELLA—Central College’s Tyler Lowy (junior, Phoenix, Ariz., Thunderbird HS) earned Iowa Conference wrestler of the week honors following his championship performance Saturday in the Knox Invitational at Galesburg, Ill.
Lowy—seeded No. 3 at 197 pounds—knocked off the Nos. 1 and 2 seeds en route to the crown. After opening the day with a major decision, Lowy won by decision in the quarterfinals and upset No. 2-seeded Hunter Feraco (Augustana) by 4-2 decision in the semifinals. In the final bout, he won by fall over top-seeded Helmut Rentschler (Truman State) in 3:26 to finish the invitational with a 4-0 overall record.
Lowy was one of three Dutch champions—(Daniel Page, junior, 125, Tumwater, Wash.) and Aaron Anderson (sophomore, 133, Clarion, Clarion-Goldfield HS)—and 12 top-six placewinners at the invitational.
It is Lowy’s first career individual title and first career wrestler of the week honor.
Central returns to the mat Saturday at the Harold Nichols Open hosted by Iowa State. Start time is 9 a.m. at Ames.
