PELLA—Central College women’s soccer forward Alayna Bailey (senior, Des Moines, Hoover HS) was named Iowa Conference female athlete of the week, while volleyball defensive specialist Dzenita Bahtic (junior, Urbandale) was named volleyball defensive player of the week.

Bailey climbs charts—Bailey scored the game-winning goal Saturday at Luther with less than 12 minutes remaining in the game for a 2-1 win. It was Central’s first ever win over the Norse at Decorah. She also scored in the closing minutes of a 2-0 win Tuesday over William Penn. It is Bailey’s second career athlete of the week award and her fifth career women’s soccer offensive player of the week award—including four this season.

Bailey leads the league with 19 goals—second most in Dutch history behind Heather Allbee, who scored 21 in 1998. She is also second in career goals with 47, trailing Tori Rittman, (2004-07) by five, and third in career points with 100, behind Allbee (1995-98) who had 101 and Rittman, who had 121. The Dutch, 12-4-2 overall and 3-2-1 conference, have matched the school season wins record set by the 1999 and 2012 squads.

Central plays host to No. 23-ranked Loras College (14-3-1 overall, 6-0-0 conference) Tuesday afternoon at 12:30 p.m. at the A.N. Kuyper Athletics Complex field.

Bahtic digs deep—Bahtic led the Dutch volleyball squad to a 4-0 weekend at the Augustana (Ill.) Pumpkin Bash. Central avenged two early-season losses Friday with four-set wins over William Penn and host Augustana before Saturday wins over North Park (Ill.) and Carthage (Wis.) in three and four sets, respectively. Bahtic recorded a weekend total of 124 digs—including 42 in the William Penn match—without a single reception error. She also added six service aces and two assists to her impressive stat line.

Central (12-19 overall, 1-5 conference) visits Loras (14-15 overall, 4-2 conference) in the regular season finale Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. at Dubuque.
