PELLA—Central College sophomores Angie Allgood (Muscatine) and Megan Davis (Highlands Ranch, Colo., Valor Christian HS) received all-Iowa Conference women’s tennis honors Thursday.

Allgood—who was all-conference in singles in 2012—was named all-league in both singles and doubles, while Davis was recognized in doubles.

Allgood compiled a 9-2 record as the top Dutch player, including a 4-2 conference record. She finished the season on a five-match winning streak and was 8-2 in her final 10 matches. She tied for the league lead with five wins at No. 1 and had the third-best winning percentage in the league at the top spot.

Davis teamed up with Allgood at the top doubles spot for an 8-3 overall record. The duo led all No. 1 doubles teams in wins and had the third-best winning percentage in the league at the top spot. Allgood and Davis were 5-1 in league play and 7-3 in their final 10.

Davis was also 6-5 overall, 4-2 in the conference at the No. 2 singles spot.

“Both Angie and Megan had great seasons,” coach Steve Tyler said. “They have matured into excellent players in the Iowa Conference. It bodes really well for our program to have two ladies of their caliber and work ethic at the top of our lineup. I see them getting better and better as they get more experience. They are most deserving.”

Central (8-3 overall, 4-3 conference) finished fourth in the team standings this fall, qualifying for the six-team NCAA Automatic Qualifier Tournament on April 25-26, 2014. Conference champion Coe (10-0 overall, 7-0 IIAC) has earned the right to host the single-elimination event.
