Eight Iowa Conference championships
CEDAR RAPIDS—Following a brief rain delay, the Central College women’s golf team slipped to third place in the standings after the third round at the Iowa Conference Women’s Golf Championship.
Rain delayed the start of Friday’s round until noon and the Dutch were slow out of the gate at the par-71 Elmcrest Country Club. After a 359, Central is third with 344-332-359—1035.
Junior Taylor Hill (Treynor) remained in fifth place individually with an 81-81-84—246. Junior Kelsey Van Tasell climbed one spot in the individual standings to eighth with 86-83-85—254. Freshman Ali Kallsen (Hinton) is 17th with 87-82-98—267. Sophomore Rachel Cassens (Stockton, Ill.) is tied for 18th with 90-86-92—268, while classmate Chelsey Shuey (Ames) is tied for 29th with 97-93-98—288.
“It was not a very good day,” coach Tim Wilkinson said. “It is never easy to prepare to play, sit around and then go back out, but it’s not the first time we’ve had to do it. We just weren’t ready to play today.
“It’s frustrating to have these kinds of days at the end of the season, when the scores really matter.”
Defending champion Wartburg leads the team race heading into Saturday’s final round with 314-317-309—940. Luther is second at 345-334-353—1032. Central trails the Norse by three strokes.
Rochelle Beardsley of Wartburg leads the medalist race by two strokes with 74-78-77—229. Teammate Morgan McMillan is second with 74-82-75—231.
Saturday’s final round begins at 11 a.m.
