Dutch women’s tennis team tops Buena Vista at neutral site

FORT DODGE-The Central College women’s tennis team topped Iowa Conference foe Buena Vista 8-1 in Fort Dodge on Tuesday night.

The two teams battled rain and daylight in a meet that lasted nearly four hours.

The Dutch won two of the three doubles matches for the early advantage. Sophomores Angie Allgood (Muscatine) and Megan Davis (Highlands Ranch, Colo., Valor Christian HS) rolled at No. 1 in an 8-3 win. Anna Bowser (sophomore, Fort Dodge) and Ashlyn Huegel (junior, Bettendorf, Pleasant Valley HS) needed a tiebreaker, but scored a 9-8 win at No. 2. Buena Vista (3-5 overall, 2-5 conference) won 8-5 at No. 3.

Central won all six singles matches in straight sets. Allgood, Davis and Bowser dominated the top three spots, dropping a combined seven games. Allgood won 6-0, 6-2 at the top spot, while Davis won 6-3, 6-0 at No. 2 and Bowser won 6-1, 6-1 at No. 3. Huegel needed an extra game in the second set, but scored the point at No. 4 with a 6-3, 7-5 win. Sarah Montgomery (junior, Bettendorf) won 6-2, 6-2 at No. 5, while Katie Todd (sophomore, Cedar Falls) remained undefeated (7-0) on the season with a win at No. 6, 6-4, 6-3.

“We came out with good energy and a positive attitude,” coach Steve Tyler said. “We showed good quickness and footwork in doubles and set the tone early in singles. I was very pleased with the overall performance.”

The Dutch (6-1, 3-1 conference) return home on Saturday versus Morningside (0-0) at 2 p.m
