11 NCAA Div. III national team championships
PELLA-Two Central College soccer players have been named Iowa Conference performers of the week.
Forward Alayna Bailey (senior, Des Moines, Hoover HS) was named women’s soccer offensive performer of the week and forward Aleksandar Glavas (junior, Loves Park, Ill., Guilford HS) was named men’s soccer offensive performer of the week.
Bailey sparked the Central women’s soccer team’s attack with a hat trick in an 8-0 win over Maranatha Baptist (Wis.). The Dutch captain scored all three goals in a span of 11 minutes, 11 seconds less than six minutes into the second period. The two teams were scoreless at halftime. Central also recorded a 1-0 win over Grinnell Wednesday. Bailey’s complete weekly statistics included three goals on 12 shots, eight on goal, and six points.
The Dutch (4-2) travel to Monmouth, Ill. for a Wednesday game at Monmouth (2-1) at 3 p.m.
Glavas nets award after OT game-winner—Glavas scored the game-winning goal with less than one minute remaining in overtime as the Central men’s soccer team surprised previously undefeated Augustana (Ill.) 2-1. He also assisted on Mark Hentschel’s (junior, West Des Moines, Dowling Catholic HS) goal midway through the second period to send the game to overtime. On Friday Glavas assisted Adelmo Marchiori IV’s (freshman, Carlinville, Ill.) game-tying goal in an eventual 4-2 loss to Grand View. For the week, Glavas had one goal on 11 shots, six shots on goal and two assists for four points.
The Dutch (3-3) return to Illinois on Wednesday for a non-conference game at Monmouth (Ill.) at 5 p.m.
