Central men’s tennis team edges Grand View 5-4

DES MOINES-The Central College men’s tennis team opened its non-traditional season by edging Grand View 5-4 on Friday night.

The top two Dutch doubles teams won handily. West Adelman (sophomore, Geneva, Ill.) and Tim Kahl (junior, Grinnell) won 8-3 at the top spot, while Josh Forst (junior, Woodridge, Ill., Downers Grove South HS) and John Seier (senior, Waverly, Neb.) lost only one game at No. 2. The Vikings won 8-5 at No. 3.

The Vikings (0-1) and Dutch split the six matches, including two third-set super tiebreakers.

Adelman rallied after being shut out in the first set at No. 1 for a 0-6, 6-2, 10-8 victory. Forst and BJ Cunningham (senior, Cedar Rapids, Kennedy HS) both won in straight sets to clinch the meet. Forst won 6-2, 7-5 at No. 3, while Cunningham, who lost the least amount of games, won 6-4, 6-1 at No. 5.

Central (1-0) concludes its non-traditional dual season on Tuesday versus Buena Vista. The two teams square off on a neutral court in Fort Dodge at 3:30 p.m.
