Men's track | May 8, 2013

PELLA—Central College kept its spot at No. 14 in this week’s U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches’ Association Division III poll.

The Dutch men were also ranked 14th last week, after reaching its highest rating of the season at No. 12. Central collected five victories at the Monmouth College (Ill.) Invitational last Saturday. Senior Josh Fleming (Caseyville, Ill., Collinsville HS) was tabbed the Iowa Conference field events performer of the week after winning the discus throw with a personal best toss of 162 feet, 11 inches, which ranks 14th on the Division III list.

Wis.-Oshkosh took over the poll at No. 1, knocking Wis.-La Crosse down to the second slot. Conference foe Wartburg slipped seven notches to No. 21.

Central defends its title at the league championships this weekend at Dubuque. Hosted by Loras, the meet opens Thursday with the decathlon at 3 p.m. Field events are slated to begin Friday at 1 p.m. with running events starting at 3 p.m. The Dutch have captured the past four titles and are looking to sweep the men’s championships after winning the cross country and indoor track and field crowns earlier this year.
