Central women’s tennis team overpowered by Simpson

Women's tennis | April 16, 2013

PELLA— The young Central College women’s tennis team couldn’t hold off Simpson College’s senior squad, dropping its match 6-3 at the A.N. Kuyper Athletics Complex tennis courts.

No. 1 doubles team Angie Allgood (freshman, Muscatine) and Megan Davis (freshman, Highlands Ranch, Colo., Valor Christian HS) rolled past the competition 8-0. Allgood also won at No. 1 singles, 6-1, 6-0.

“Angie had a really great day,” coach Steve Tyler said. “She played so well, but several of the other matches were really close and we lost them all. You have to tip your hat to Simpson. They have four seniors and they played very well. We had four freshmen and they just need more experience.”

Anna Bowser (freshman, Fort Dodge) captured the last win for the Dutch, claiming a victory at No. 5 singles, 6-3, 7-5. The squad lost the remaining matches, and weather was a contributing factor.

“The weather was nasty,” Tyler said. “But our players came out and really battled. We just need more experience which will help us get better.”

Central will play in its final matches of the spring season on April 26 at the Iowa Conference tournament. The Dutch will have a chance at redemption and play Simpson at 6 p.m. The location is still to be determined.
