PELLA—Seven Central College student-athletes earned spots on the Iowa Conference all-academic winter sports team.
Three-time men’s basketball letterwinner and all-Iowa Conference honorable mention honoree Matt Greenfield (junior, Huxley, Ballard HS) is among the Dutch standouts that also excel in the classroom. Also listed are Hilary Beaird (junior, Burlington) and Jessy Stika (junior, Cresco, Crestwood HS), who were both 2011-12 academic selections in women’s basketball.
To qualify for the distinction, a student-athlete must compete at the varsity level, be at least a sophomore in academic standing with at least one year at the institution and achieve a 3.5 or better cumulative grade point average (4.0 scale).
Central placed 43 student-athletes on the fall squad, its most honorees in five years. Last winter the Dutch had eight on the academic team.
