PELLA—Extending its winning streak to four matches, the Central College men’s tennis team wrapped up another win Saturday against Nebraska Wesleyan University, 7-2.

The Dutch (4-0 spring, 2-0 overall) swept the Prairie Wolves (0-7) in doubles play. West Adelman (freshman, Geneva, Ill.) and Kyle Freischlag (junior, Downers Grove, Ill., Downers Grove South HS) at No. 1 doubles won 8-2. Teamed at No. 2 doubles, Tim Kahl (sophomore, Grinnell) and John Seier (junior, Waverly, Neb.) rolled up an 8-5 victory and No. 3 team Zane Hendricks (junior, Fort Dodge) and Josh Forst (sophomore, Woodridge, Ill., Downers Grove South HS) won 8-3.

“It was a good day,” said coach Steve Tyler. “The highlight was that we won all of our doubles. It puts us in a commanding position when we take the doubles matches. It really takes some of the pressure off.

“Kyle and West came out and won the first three at No. 1 doubles and found a way to break Nebraska Wesleyan’s serve,” he said. “It’s nice to come out strong.”

In singles play, No. 2 Adelman narrowly secured a 6-3, 3-6, 1-0 breaker and No. 3 Collin Schares (sophomore, Johnston) posted a 6-2, 6-3 win.

“Collin pulled out our fourth win of the day pretty easily and then West clinched the win for us with his tough breaker match,” Tyler said.

The Dutch captured two more wins. No. 5 Hendricks won 6-4, 6-3 and No. 6 Pat Daly (senior, Shawnee, Kan., Shawnee Mission NW) pulled off the win in a breaker match, 6-2, 4-6, 1-0.

“They were a young team and are definitely going to be a team to be reckoned with,” said Tyler. “I am most pleased by the way we played today.”

Central has a week to prepare for the next matches. The Dutch will play in Hanover Park, Ill. against Wheaton College (Ill.) and Judson University (Ill.) on Saturday.
