Central multi-eventers kick off weekend

WAVERLY—The Central College track and field squads got an early start to this weekend’s competition with the men’s heptathlon and women’s pentathlon at the Wartburg Select Friday.

Eric Larson (sophomore, Waverly, Waverly-Shell Rock HS) is second after four events of the heptathlon with 2,739 points. Jaemin Powel (freshman, Wellman, Mid-Prarie HS) sits in eighth (2,323 points) while Aaron Fuller (senior, Aberdeen, S.D., Roncalli HS) is tenth (2,231 points).

Hillary Hotz (sophomore, Fort Dodge, St. Edmond HS) accumulated 2,893 points to take fourth for the Dutch in the pentathlon. Morgan Sharp (senior, Grinnell) and Kaitlyn Gillett (sophomore, Cedar Falls) took eighth (2,759 points) and ninth (2,735 points) respectively.

The men’s heptathletes resume competition at 8 a.m. Saturday. Open field events are slated to begin at 8 a.m. with running events starting at 1 p.m.
