Four NCAA Div. III championships
PELLA — Central College landed 10 players on the National Fastpitch Coaches Association’s All-America Scholar-Athlete softball 2012 squad, the 12th-highest total of any NCAA Division III school and the best showing by any Iowa Conference squad.
The Dutch ranked second in Division III a year ago with 13 honorees and second in 2010 with 11.
The Scholar-Athlete distinction is given to any player with a 3.50 GPA or higher during the last academic year. Central had 11 honorees a year ago, which ranked second in Division III.
Catcher Jess Edler, a senior last spring, was honored for the third straight year. Outfielder Lexi Cessna, shortstop Chelsea Greiner, pitcher Brie Haycraft, first baseman Jordan Overland, right fielder Emily Te Brink and center fielder Holly Von Fumetti were each named for the second time. Outfielder Shannon Coulson, second baseman Angela Davis and catcher Dana Van Renterghem were also honored.
Overland topped the chart for the Dutch, posting a perfect 4.0 grade point average in 2011-12.
The Dutch posted a 36-10 record last spring, winning the Iowa Conference tournament and earning their 24th NCAA tournament berth.
