Central trending upward in men’s cross country national rankings

PELLA— The Central College men’s cross country team jumped two spots in the national rankings, moving to No. 22 in the NCAA Division III poll produced by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.

The Dutch won their first league title in program history Saturday. Central runners claimed the top three spots and totaled 33 points, easily outpacing runner-up Loras with 50 points.

Haverford (Pa.) held the top spot for the second consecutive week. No other Iowa Conference schools were ranked. Central Regional No. 2 St. Olaf (Minn.) landed at No. 29.

The Dutch are off this weekend and will travel to Northfield, Minn. Nov. 10 for the Central Region championships. The top two teams will automatically qualify for the NCAA Division III national championships in Terre Haute, Ind. Nov. 17. Central last earned a national berth in 1980 and finished 21st.
