PELLA— The Central College men’s cross country team continues to hold the top spot in the seventh week of the regional rankings produced by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.

It’s the fourth consecutive week the Dutch have landed the No. 1 ranking in the Central Region. Iowa Conference competitor Loras checked in at third, while Luther and Wartburg were fifth and ninth respectively. Central is also ranked 24th in the USTFCCCA national poll.

The Dutch won their first league title in program history Saturday. Central runners claimed the top three spots and totaled 33 points, outpacing Loras for second with 50 points. Luther finished third with 70 points and Wartburg was fourth with 108 points.

The Dutch are off this weekend and will travel to Northfield, Minn. Nov. 10 for the Central Region championships. The top two teams will automatically qualify for the NCAA Division III national championships in Terre Haute, Ind. Nov. 17. Central last earned a national bid in 1980 and finished 21st.
