FORT DODGE— The Central College men’s tennis fall season got off to an encouraging start with a  9-0 sweep of Buena Vista University Tuesday.

The Dutch were easy winners in singles but also had some tight doubles matches. West Adelman (freshman, Geneva, Ill.) and Kyle Freischlag (junior, Downers Grove, Ill./South HS) escaped 9-8 (14-12) at No. 1 while Bryn Boswell (senior, Pella) and Josh Forst (sophomore, Woodridge, Ill., Downers Grove South HS) prevailed 9-8 (7-4) at No. 2.

“We played well in doubles and very solidly in singles,” Tyler said. “It was a good warm-up for the Iowa Conference tournament.”

The league individual tournament will be played Friday and Saturday at Decorah.

“We’ll see how we do against the top teams,” Tyler said. “I’m very happy with the way we’re playing.”

The Dutch lineup is a bit unsettled, with the spring season still several months away.

“The fall for us is just a shakedown cruise,” Tyler said. “We’re pretty deep and the lineup will change, I’m sure.”
