WATERLOO— After only a week of practice, Central College has two doubles teams and two individuals advancing to the men’s tennis finals of the Ashford University Invitational.

Tim Kahl (sophomore, Grinnell) and John Seier (junior, Waverly, Neb.) won two doubles matches in the third flight, topping Missouri Valley and Augustana (S.D.). The tandem faces Ashford in Sunday’s finals. In the fourth flight, Josh Forst (sophomore, Woodridge, Ill., Downers Grove South HS) and Collin Schares (sophomore, Johnston) received a bye and then beat Missouri Valley. They’ll meet St. Joseph’s in the final match.

Meanwhile, freshman West Adelman (Geneva, Ill.) and senior Bryn Boswell (Pella) advanced to the championships in the individual tournament. Adelman is competing in the sixth flight while Boswell is in the fourth flight.

“I’m very pleased with how the team played today,” coach Steve Tyler said. “We had a lot of nice wins after just a week of practice. We had positive attitudes and our doubles teams looked really good.”

Complete results were not available. Sunday’s championship rounds begin at 8:30 a.m.
