18 top-three league team finishes in past 31 years
MONMOUTH, ILL. — Central College improved to 5-1 with a pair of lopsided women’s tennis wins Saturday as the Dutch swept Monmouth College (Ill.) 9-0 and rolled past Knox College (Ill.) 8-1.
Four players collected four wins throughout the day. Freshman Angie Allgood (Muscatine) led the Dutch with two victories at No. 1 singles and teamed with Megan Davis (freshman, Highlands Ranch, Colo., Valor Christian HS) for two wins at No. 1 doubles. Allgood posted a 6-0, 6-0 shutout against Monmouth.
Anna Striegel (sophomore, Cedar Rapids, Jefferson HS) and Anna Bowser (freshman, Fort Dodge) notched two wins at Nos. 3 and 5 singles, respectively, before pairing together to win at No. 2 doubles. Amanda Kuhn (freshman, Glen Ellyn, Ill., Glenbard South HS) picked up four wins too, taking two at No. 4 singles and two at No. 3 doubles, teaming with Sarah Montgomery (sophomore, Bettendorf) against Monmouth (1-4) and Ashlyn Huegel (sophomore, Bettendorf, Pleasant Valley HS) against Knox (0-5).
Davis posted three wins before being sidelined with an injury in singles competition against Knox. Huegel and Montgomery each had two victories.
Central travels to Fort Dodge Tuesday for a 3:30 p.m. dual against Buena Vista University. The Dutch edged the Beavers 5-4 last year. Buena Vista took a 0-3 record into a triangular with Dubuque and Northwestern (Iowa) Saturday.
