Central jumps in men’s cross country rankings

Men's cross country | Sept. 11, 2012

PELLA— Central College moved up three spots in the first week of the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association’s regional men’s cross country rankings.

The Dutch were tabbed with the No. 3 spot in the Central Region after being ranked sixth in the preseason poll.

St. Olaf (Minn.) and Loras held onto the top two spots, while Iowa Conference rivals Luther and Wartburg check in at fourth and sixth respectively.

The Central men have opened their 2012 campaign with a flurry of success. The squad easily won their home invitational Sept. 1 and followed up with a convincing victory in a 13-team field at the Grinnell Les Duke Invitational Sept. 8 over several regionally-ranked opponents.

The Dutch are off this weekend, but will return to action with a partial squad at the Grand View Invitational Sept. 21. The men’s race is slated to begin at 5 p.m.
