PELLA — As America remembers the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, the Central College athletics department will stage Military Appreciation Day.

Military veterans will receive brief recognition prior to the playing of the national anthem at Central’s 3 p.m. men’s soccer game with Washington-St. Louis University (Mo.) at the A.N. Kuyper Athletics Complex field and at the 7:30 p.m. Iowa Conference volleyball match with Wartburg College at P.H. Kuyper Gymnasium.

Veterans will receive free admission to the volleyball match. No admission fee is charged for Central’s soccer contests.

“Dedication to a cause greater than oneself and service to others are attributes of our nation’s veterans, and characteristics our student-athletes seek to emulate,” said associate director of athletics Alicia O’Brien. “This seems like an especially appropriate time to say thank you to our service members.”
