Men's cross country | Aug. 21, 2012

PELLA— Central College is sixth in the Central Region of the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association’s preseason men’s cross country rankings.

St. Olaf (Minn.) holds the top spot and is followed by Iowa Conference foes Loras and Luther. Bethel (Minn.) is fourth and Nebraska Wesleyan is fifth.

The Dutch return nine letterwinners, including six starters, from last year’s squad that finished fourth in the league and ninth in the region. Sophomore Eli Horton (Runnells, Southeast Polk HS) advanced to the NCAA Division III championships, Central’s first national representative since 2006, and was the division’s top freshman finisher, placing 52nd overall.

Central opens its season Sept. 1, hosting the Central Dutch Invitational at the A.N. Kuyper Athletics Complex. The men’s race is slated to begin at 10:15 a.m.
