Central track and field squads ranked 15th, 24th

Women's track | May 10, 2012

PELLA—The Central College men’s and women’s track and field squads are ranked 15th and 24th respectively in the seventh week of power rankings produced by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.

McMurray (Texas) still holds the top spot in the men’s rankings while Iowa Conference foe Wartburg retained the No. 1 ranking for the women.

Teams are scored using a points system that objectively measures the top performances across the country in each event.

The men’s and women’s squads took first and third respectively at the Monmouth Invitational last weekend. The Dutch will contest the outdoor Iowa Conference championships May 10-12 in Dubuque. The Central men have won the last three outdoor titles while the women placed second in 2009 and third in 2010 and 2011. The decathlon and heptathlon competitions are slated to begin Thursday at 3 p.m. Field events will begin Friday at 1 p.m. with running events starting at 3 p.m.
