Petersen gets two picks but D-3 stars defeated in Mexico

PUEBLA, MEXICO--Central defensive back Jake Petersen (senior, Gladbrook, Gladrook-Reinbeck HS) had two interceptions but Team Stars and Stripes was outscored by the CONADEIP All-Stars 45-27 in the Tazon de Estrellas football game Saturday.

Playing in front of a capacity crowd of 5,000, the U.S. team jumped to a 14-0 lead, only to see the Mexican team reel off 38 unanswered points to take command.

Petersen made a diving interception at midfield late in the first half, but the American team was unable to capitalize.

Petersen was one of six Central players in the game. He finished with five tackles, including three solos. Defensive back Ryan Schmidt (senior, Keswick, Tri-County HS) had three stops and defensive lineman Brady Hill (senior, Carroll, Kuemper Catholic HS) had two. Wide receiver Jeremy Snead (senior, Altoona, Southeast Polk HS) had three catches for 21 yards and fullback Preston West (senior, Swisher, Cedar Rapids Prairie HS) had one carry for 2 yards.
