11 NCAA Div. III national team championships
PELLA—Central College fans can meet the head coaches for the Dutch at a free ice cream reception Monday, Aug. 29 at 6:30 p.m. at Grand Central Station inside the Maytag Student Center.
A short program follows at 7:15 p.m. in the adjacent van Emmerik Studio as athletics director Al Dorenkamp introduces each of Central’s 13 head coaches. The event is sponsored by the Central Club, led once again by club president Nate Rollene.
Fans are also invited to Central’s coaches’ luncheons at the college’s dining facility, the Central Market, in rooms 105-106. Starting Sept. 13, the luncheons will be staged at noon most Mondays that classes are in session and teams are in season throughout the academic year. Each in-season coaches will provide a brief update on the season, and athletes from a selected team are also featured. A luncheon schedule is listed below.
Central Club memberships for 2011-12 are available to any supporter of the Dutch. A Captain membership is $100, with a Letterwinner membership at $80, Varsity membership at $55, Red membership at $40 and White membership at $30. Checks may be sent to the Central Club at P.O. Box 293, Pella, IA 50219. The Central Club provides Dutch student-athletes with equipment and services that would otherwise not be available. Nearly $40,000 was donated in the past year for purchases that benefit all 19 Central sports.
Two of Central’s fall sports teams kick off the 2011-12 athletics season with competition Thursday, Sept. 1. The Dutch women’s and men’s soccer teams opens on their home field in the A.N. Kuyper Athletics Complex. The women take on Grand View University at 3 p.m., with the men tackling Elmhurst College (Ill.) at 5 p.m. Central’s season football opener is Sept. 3, when the Dutch journey to Wis.-Oshkosh.
