PELLA — Several Central College men’s golf alumni and current team members are coming off a successful weekend.

Brent Goodenow (senior, Johnston), Justin Livingston (junior, Winterset) and Brent Messmore (senior, Hudson) each qualified for the Iowa Amateur July 25-27 at the Glen Oaks Country Club in West Des Moines. Goodenow tied for second at a qualifying tournament at the Coldwater Golf Links in Ames last week, shooting 72-72—144 on the par-71 layout. Livingston tied for 10th at 74-74—148. Messmore tied for 22nd at a qualifier at the par-72 Pleasant Valley Golf Course, shooting 77-77—154.

Two Central alumni are also in the Iowa Amateur field: Ron Peterson, a 1983 Central grad, and 1999 graduate Justin Schulte.

Meanwhile, four former Central golfers competed at the Iowa PGA Professional Championship Monday and Tuesday at the par-71 Arsenal Island Golf Course in Rock Island, Ill. Darin Fisher ’97, head professional at The Preserve on Rathbun Lake, tied for third at 68-72-69—209.  John Bermel ’84, professional at Pheasant Ridge Golf Course in Cedar Falls and the men’s golf coach at the University of Northern Iowa, tied for fifth at 71-65-75—211.
