Central lands two on academic team

Hannah AndersonPELLA—Central College seniors Hannah Anderson of Goodell (Garner-Hayfield HS) and Angie Berry of Norwalk have been named to the U.S. Track and Field/Cross Country Coaches Association’s All-Academic Honor Team.

Anderson carries a 3.96 cumulative grade point average with a biology major while Berry has a 3.68 GPA while majoring in social science/secondary education.

To be eligible for the USTFCCCA honor team, the athlete must carry a minimum of a 3.30 cumulative GPA and must finish in the top 35 at her NCAA regional meet.

Berry placed 21st at the NCAA Division III Central Regional at Oakland Acres near Grinnell Nov. 14 while Anderson placed 29th. Both received all-region honors and both runners competed for the Dutch at the NCAA Division III national meet Nov. 21 at Cleveland, Ohio, helping Central place 19th in the U.S.

Berry had previously qualified for the national meet twice as an individual. She is a four-time letterwinner and was a three-time academic all-Iowa Conference honoree. She received the team’s most valuable performer award. Berry was also named to the USTFCCCA all-academic track and field squad in 2007.

Anderson, a three-time letterwinner, was a member of this year’s academic all-Iowa Conference squad.
