Central players receive all-league honors

Brett McKenziePELLA—Six Central College men’s and women’s soccer players were cited as the all-Iowa Conference teams were announced.    

Forward Brett McKenzie (junior, Lindenhurst, Ill., Antioch HS), midfielder Eric Shelton (sophomore, Appleton, Wis., Kimberly HS), defender Kevin McQuerrey (sophomore, West Des Moines, Valley HS) and midfielder Jonathan Schroeder (sophomore, St. Charles, Ill., North HS) each received second-team all-Iowa Conference honors for the men’s squad. Midfielder Cody Jandik (junior, Cedar Rapids, Cedar Valley Christian HS) received honorable mention.

On the women’s squad, midfielder Jenna Hindman (senior, Swisher, Cedar Rapids Prairie HS) received honorable mention.

McKenzie was a first-team all-conference selection last year while Shelton was a second-team pick for the second straight season. Jandik was a second-team pick in 2007 and 2008.

Central’s men’s squad posted a 9-10 record and qualified for the league tournament for the eighth straight year. Nine of Central’s losses were by one goal.

McKenzie was the team’s leading scorer with 10 goals and three assists. Schroeder had four goals and a team-high six assists, Jandik had five goals and one assist, Shelton had one goal and four assists and McQuerrey had five assists.

Hindman had two goals for the Central women’s squad, which was 1-18. She was a second-team honoree in 2008.
