CEDAR RAPIDS— The Central College men's tennis team ran into tough competition Saturday, dropping a pair of matches to Wis.-La Crosse and Coe College.
The Dutch (4-3) lost an early-afternoon match to the Eagles 8-1 and were blanked 9-0 in their second match of the day by perennial powerhouse Coe (4-1).
Jared Feddersen (junior, Fort Dodge ) picked up Central's only win of the day, winning a marathon match at No. 1 singles 5-7, 6-2, 10-1 against Wis.-La Crosse's Mike Van Leishout.
“We knew it was going to be a tough day,” said coach Greg Gilmore. “We need to use this as a basis for the rest of the season. We know a lot more about what we need to work on and improve in the coming weeks.”
Central travels to Moline , Ill. next Saturday to take on St. Ambrose at 11 a.m. before facing off against Cornell College at 3:30 p.m. in Cedar Rapids .
