No. 2 Wartburg blanks Central wrestlers
WAVERLY— Second-ranked Wartburg College overwhelmed the young Central College wrestling squad 49-0 Wednesday at Waverly-Shell Rock High School.
The Knights (15-1) extended their Iowa Conference dual-meet win streak to 109 and have won 40 of their last 41 duals overall. Central drops to 0-13.
Wartburg scored three falls and a technical fall. Central was open at four weights, regaining the services of Jess Welu (freshman, Dubuque , Hempstead HS) at 184 pounds. Coach Eric Reed also hopes to have Ryan DeVriendt (senior, Sherrard , Ill. ) back at 157 pounds this weekend along with Griffin Holden (freshman, Bettendorf, Pleasant Valley HS) at 165.
The Dutch play host to the Iowa Conference Duals Saturday at H.S. Kuyper Fieldhouse. It'll be a challenging day for Central, taking on 24th-ranked Buena Vista at 8:30 a.m., 17th-rated Cornell at 10 a.m., No. 5 Luther at 1 p.m. and 16th-ranked Loras at 2:30 p.m.
