Feb. 3, 2007Trullinger, Ohnemus place at Briar Cliff
PELLA— Mark Trullinger (senior, Mount Ayr) and Andy Ohnemus (senior, Indianola, Southeast Warren HS) each snared place finishes as the Central College wrestling team finished seventh at the 11-team Briar Cliff Invitational Saturday.
Final point standings were unavailable.
Trullinger finished second at 285 pounds while Ohnemus was fourth at 141. Trullinger opened with a pin of Waldorf's Josh Reis in 4:52, then got past Morningside's Kiel Ploen 8-6 in the semifinals before getting pinned in the finals.
Ohnemus posted a 5-1 record, winning his first two matches before suffering a 5-2 setback in the semifinals to Brandon Pigorsch of York (Neb.). He rebounded with a 9-6 win over Morningside's Morgan Freese, then scoring a two-point decision over Joey Vossler of Jamestown for third place.
“Mark Trullinger wrestled really well,” coach Eric Reed said. “Andy (Ohnemus) had a shot at being in the finals, too.”
Max Davis (freshman, Des Moines, Roosevelt HS) was 2-2 at 197 pounds and Ryan DeVriendt (senior, Sherrard, Ill.) was 1-2 at 157.
Central wraps up its dual meet schedule Wednesday, traveling to Indianola to meet Simpson College in a 7 p.m. match. The Dutch then take a break to prepare for the Iowa Conference tournament at Dubuque Feb. 15.
