Seven national top-10 team finishes
PELLA—Central College juniors Daniel Page (Tumwater, Wash.) and Tyler Lowy (Phoenix, Ariz., Thunderbird HS) enter this weekend’s NCAA Division III Central Regional ranked in the most recent National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) poll.
The 125-pound Page rejoined the rankings at No. 10 after a two-month absence, while the 197-pound Lowy retained his No. 9 ranking that he’s held for three consecutive polls. Page owns a 25-4 record at 125 pounds with a team-high six major decisions. Lowy has matched Page’s record at 197 pounds and scored a team-high eight falls and 13 decisions.
Since the previous poll, the duo led the Dutch (7-10 overall, 1-6 conference) to a 3-1 dual record with two wins over Simpson (29-11, 36-12) and a nonconference win over William Penn (33-15). The latter dual against the Storm served as the seventh-place match in the Iowa Conference Dual Championship Finals. Page was 3-1 over the final four duals, while Lowy was 3-0.
Wartburg’s Gilberto Camacho is the top-ranked wrestler at 125 pounds, while Luther’s Garrett Wangsness is also ranked at No. 8. Wartburg’s Puna Soriano is ranked No. 4 at 197, while Coe’s Donnie Horner is ranked No. 10.
Four Iowa Conference schools are listed in the team rankings. Defending champion Wartburg remains the top-ranked team and has an individually ranked wrestler at eight weights. Coe is ranked No. 10, while Loras and Luther come in at Nos. 15 and 17, respectively.
The Dutch return to the mats Saturday for the NCAA Division III Central Regional at Dubuque, where tickets to the NCAA Division III Championships will be on the line.
