Women's tennis | Sept. 3, 2013

CEDAR RAPIDS-Central College sophomore Angie Allgood (Muscatine) was named Iowa Conference women’s tennis player of the week following a four-win weekend to open the 2013 season.

Allgood won two matches at No. 1 singles and two matches at No. 1 doubles in an opening weekend sweep of non-conference foes Monmouth College (Ill.) and Knox College (Ill.). Allgood defeated Julie Graf of Monmouth in the season opener 6-0, 6-0 and Charlotte Garvin of Knox 3-6, 6-3, 10-5. Allgood teamed up with classmate Megan Davis (Highlands Ranch, Colo./Valor Christian HS) for an 8-1 win over Monmouth’s top doubles team and an 8-6, come-from-behind win over Knox’s No. 1 doubles team.

It is the first career player of the week award for Allgood, who received all-Iowa Conference distinction in 2012.

The Dutch open conference play Saturday in Dubuque. Central visits the University of Dubuque at 9 a.m. before traveling across town to play Loras at 1 p.m.
