Central stages "Meet the coaches" event

General Information | Aug. 15, 2013

PELLA —With the start of the 2013-14 athletics season just days away, Central College fans are invited to a “Meet the coaches” ice cream social in the Dave and Ardith Sutphen Room of the Graham Conference Center Annex Tuesday, Aug. 27 at 7 p.m.

The event is open to the public and is free—as is the ice cream.

The fall sport coaches will give a quick update on the upcoming season and athletics director Eric Van Kley will introduce the other head coaches for Central’s 19 intercollegiate sports. But the majority of the hour will be devoted to allowing the fans and coaches to interact.

The year kicks off Friday, Aug. 30 with the Dutch women’s soccer team, men’s soccer team and volleyball team all in action. The women’s soccer team travels to St. Catherine (Minn.), while the men’s soccer squad travels to Washington-St. Louis (Mo.) and the volleyball team travels to Colorado Springs, Colo. for the Molten Colorado College Invitational, beginning with Pacific (Ore.). The first Central home athletics event of the 2013-14 season is Saturday, Aug. 31, as the women’s tennis team plays host to Monmouth (Ill.) and Knox (Ill.) The women’s soccer team is in action on Saturday, as well, as is the volleyball team.

Fans at the Aug. 27 event will also have an opportunity to join the Central Club, one of the nation’s oldest small-college athletics booster organizations. For membership information, go to the Central athletics website at http://www.central.edu/athletics/centralClub/.
