34-19-5 (.650) mark over past three seasons
PELLA—Central College goalkeeper Steph Hasken (senior, Davenport, West HS) notched her second shutout in as many outings as the women’s soccer team blanked Buena Vista University 3-0 Saturday.
Hasken made five saves as the Dutch (10-4-1 overall, 3-1-1 conference) outshot the Beavers 16-13, including a 10-2 edge in the opening half. Buena Vista (9-6-1 overall, 0-5 conference) had a 5-4 shots on goal advantage for the match. Hasken, who also posted a shutout against Simpson College Wednesday, has six for the year.
“I can’t say enough about our keeper and back line,” coach Mike Kobylinski said. “It’s always good to get a shutout and it’s a great way to send the seniors out on Senior Day against a good, well-coached Buena Vista side.”
Forward Brittany Hinton (sophomore, Davenport, West HS) scored a pair of goals in the 56th and 65th minutes, with assists from forward Alayna Bailey (junior, Des Moines, Hoover HS) and midfielder Emily Saville (sophomore, Cedar Rapids, Linn-Mar HS). Hinton has four goals this season.
“Brittany had an absolute stormer,” Kobylinski said. “It was an all-around great effort at a great time of year in conference play.”
Bailey gave the Dutch a 1-0 lead in the 24th minute with an assist from Hinton. Bailey has racked up 13 goals this year, which ranks tied for fourth on the school’s season leaderboard. Her 26 career goals are also fourth on the all-time lists.
“It’s nice to get Alayna back on the board,” Kobylinski said.
Central takes a break from the Iowa Conference schedule to face William Penn University Tuesday at 7 p.m. in Oskaloosa. The Statesmen are 2-12 heading into Saturday’s matchup against Clarke. Central has a 6-3-1 advantage in the all-time series.
“Hopefully it will be a game for others to step up since it’s non-conference,” Kobylinski said.
