Men's cross country | Oct. 9, 2012

PELLA— The Central College men’s cross country team held the top spot in the fifth week of the regional rankings produced by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.

It’s the second consecutive week the Dutch have landed the No. 1 ranking in the Central Region after jumping St. Olaf (Minn.) in the fourth week of the poll. Iowa Conference competitors Loras and Wartburg held steady at second and third respectively while Luther dropped to sixth. Central is also ranked 23rd in the USTFCCCA national poll.

The Dutch men are coming off a solid showing at the prestigious University of Minnesota Roy Griak Invitational Sept. 29. Central placed fourth in the 27-team field and defeated the formerly top-ranked Oles.

The Dutch will travel to West Salem, Wis. Saturday for the Wis.-La Crosse Jim Drews/Tori Neubauer Invitational. The men’s race is slated for 10:30 a.m. while the women will run at 11:30 a.m.
