22-13-3 (.618) mark over past two seasons
DUBUQUE — Goalkeeper Steph Hasken (senior, Davenport, West HS) kept the Central College women’s soccer team alive with eight saves but the Dutch were stymied by first place Loras College 2-0 Saturday.
The Dutch were outshot 22-8 as they dropped to 8-4-1 overall and 1-1-1 in Iowa Conference play.
“Steph (Hasken) has steadily improved, and I say this time and time again, but she keeps us in the game,” coach Mike Kobylinski said. “Still, this game was an improvement from last year. Loras (10-4 overall, 3-0 conference) is a very good team.”
Forward Alayna Bailey (junior, Des Moines, Hoover HS) took two of Central’s four shots on goal and had three shots.
“Alayna got in twice, and was close to scoring two or three times,” said Kobylinski. “She did a great job along with Emily Saville (sophomore, Cedar Rapids, Linn-Mar HS) and Gabbi Muse (sophomore, Waukee). They were fantastic on the center midfield.”
Midfielder Alyssa Fuller (junior, Marshalltown) had two shots while Saville and Nancy Huddleston (senior, Muscatine) each took one.
“On defense, Liz Daniels (sophomore, Oconomowoc, Wis.) won numerous 50-50 challenges and played well,” said Kobylinski.
Central heads out to Indianola Wednesday to take on Simpson College (7-5 overall, 1-2 conference). Last year, the Dutch lost to Simpson in conference play and in the first round of the Iowa Conference tournament, 2-0.
“Overall, I am pleased with how we played today,” Kobylinski said. “As we take on Simpson, I am hopeful we will have a different recipe this year.”
