2014 NCAA Div. III tournament qualifier
PELLA—Guard Miguel Ley (senior, San Antonio, Texas, Judson HS) poured in 25 points with six assists and center Loren Liming (senior, Ames, Gilbert HS) notched his third double-double of the season as the Central College men’s basketball team opened Iowa Conference play with an 84-61 victory over Simpson College Wednesday.
Liming had 20 points, 13 rebounds and four assists while guard Justin Madsen (senior, Fort Dodge, Saint Edmond HS) added 14 and guard Mark Holan (senior, Fontanelle, Nodaway Valley HS) had 10 as the Dutch improved to 5-1 overall.
Central burst to a 20-6 lead in the first five minutes and was up 42-26 at intermission. The Dutch led by as many as 28 points in the second half.
Central outshot Simpson (1-6 overall, 0-1 conference) 43.1 percent to 31.6 percent and held a 48-39 rebounding advantage.
The Dutch travel to Waverly Saturday for another league women’s-men’s doubleheader. Wartburg is 3-2 and hasn’t yet made its conference debut. Saturday’s women’s game starts at 2 p.m. and the men’s game tips at 4 p.m.
