Nov. 30, 2009Central lands 32 on academic squad
PELLA—Central College has 32 student-athletes on the fall sports academic all-Iowa Conference team.
Two-time Iowa Conference women’s golf MVP Sarah Paulson (sophomore, Ottumwa) is among the Dutch standouts who also excel in the classroom. Four of the seven Central runners who competed in the NCAA Division III national women’s cross country meet Nov. 14 also were cited.
To qualify for the honor team, a student-athlete must have participated in varsity competition,be at least a sophomore in academic standing and carry a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or higher.
Central had 13 players from its league champion football squad honored, with seven athletes in volleyball, four in women’s cross country, three in men’s soccer, two in women’s soccer and women’s tennis and one in women’s golf.
Last year the Dutch also had 32 student-athletes on the fall academic squad with three on the winter team and 21 on the spring sports team.
