Three NCAA Div. III national titles
INDIANOLA—Central College was ousted from the Iowa Conference volleyball tournament Friday by No. 3-seeded Wartburg College 25-22, 25-17, 25-23.
Senior outside hitter Michelle Ripperger (Urbandale), who earlier in the day was tabbed for the all-Iowa Conference first team for the second straight year, closed her Central career with 11 kills. Right-side hitter Ashley Ellingson (junior, West Des Moines, Valley HS) had nine kills and three blocks, middle hitter Lindsay Jennings (Atkins, Benton HS) had eight kills and three blocks and middle hitter Kiley Meyers (sophomore, Grundy Center) had eight kills and no errors in 15 attempts, hitting a match-high .533. She also had three blocks.
Libero Chelsea Grieger (sophomore, Pella), a second-team all-conference selection, had 24 digs while setter Maggie Snyder (sophomore, Alexandria, Minn., Rosemount HS) had 33 assists and three blocks.
Wartburg (17-16) outhit Central for the night, .310 to .141. The Knights advanced to take on second-seeded Luther College in the tourney semifinals later in the evening.
Central closes at 22-11, the program’s 18th consecutive 20-win season. The Dutch graduate Ripperger, Jennings, middle hitter Sara Mouw (Greene, North Butler HS), setter Dena Christian (Story City, Roland-Story HS) and defensive specialist Jenna Gillette (senior, Caledonia, Ill., Belvidere HS).
