Oct. 27, 2009St. Ambrose overpowers Central
DAVENPORT—NAIA stalwart St. Ambrose overpowered the Central College women’s soccer team 7-0 Tuesday.
St. Ambrose (16-1-1) struck in the seventh minute and jumped to a 4-0 lead at intermission. The Queen Bees, NAIA tournament qualifiers last season, outshot Central 33-4.
Goalkeepers Abby Norman (sophomore, Geneseo, Ill.) and Shelby Austin (freshman, Wichita, Kan., Goddard HS) split time for the Dutch. Norman made six saves in the first half while Austin made four in the second.
Central (1-17) wraps up the season Saturday at Storm Lake against Buena Vista Univ. in a women’s-men’s doubleheader with the women’s game starting at 1 p.m. and the men’s contest at 3 p.m. Buena Vista, 3-13 overall, is 1-6 in league play. Central was a 5-0 winner over the Beavers a year ago in Pella and leads the teams’ all-time series, 10-1.
