Central pushes Coe to 2OT

PELLA—The first win of the Iowa Conference season was tantalizingly close for the Central College women’s soccer team Saturday, but Coe College ultimately escaped with a 1-0 double overtime win.

The Dutch (1-16 overall, 0-7 conference) had some good looks at the goal in regulation as each team made 11 shots. But Coe (6-10-1 overall, 4-3 conference) outshot Central 7-1 in the overtimes and Lisa Frank ended it with a header off a rebound at the 103:48 mark.

“It’s frustrating to see the loss but with everything we take some positives and the positives are that from back-to-front and front-to-back we played very well today,” coach Colin Kuchy said.

“We had some great shots. We created some opportunities for ourselves. We’re connecting and coming together and that says a lot for this team.”

The contest marked the final home appearance for midfielder Jenna Hindman (senior, Swisher, Prairie HS) and defender Jessi Steward (senior, Cedar Falls), a pair of four-year starters.

“I can’t say enough about our two seniors,” Kuchy said. “Not only for their dedication and for their leadership but their ability to help get the program headed to a new level. They played their hearts out today—the whole team did.”

Central plays its final non-conference game of the season Tuesday, facing St. Ambrose in a first-ever meeting at 3 p.m. match at Davenport. The Queen Bees took a 14-1-1 record into Saturday’s game at Iowa Wesleyan. The Dutch wrap up the season with a league game at Buena Vista Oct. 31.
