Central jumps to No. 6 in poll

PELLA—Central College has jumped two spots to No. 6 in the American Football Coaches Association Division III poll while the Dutch moved up to No. 7 in the D3football.com top 25.

Central, 7-0, was a 35-17 winner over Luther College in an Iowa Conference game at Pella Saturday. The Dutch were No. 8 in both polls a week ago. However previously unbeaten Mary Hardin-Baylor (Texas), which was ranked No. 3 last week, was upset by Mississippi College Saturday 17-14 and tumbled to No. 8 in the D3football.com poll and to No. 13 in the AFCA rankings. Central also leapfrogged Washington & Jefferson (Pa.) in the AFCA poll.

It’s Central’s highest ranking since also being tagged No. 6 in the AFCA postseason poll in 2007 after climbing to as high as No. 3 that season.

The Dutch travel to Dubuque Saturday to take on Loras College in a 1 p.m. league game.
