Veteran HS coach Van Wyk joins Dutch staff

PELLA—Long-time Pella Christian High School assistant Marvin Van Wyk has been named an assistant men’s basketball coach at Central College.

Van Wyk will serve as Central’s junior varsity squad coach and also assist with the varsity.

A Pella native, Van Wyk has been an assistant at Pella Christian since 1991, including 16 years as head sophomore coach, compiling a 226-63 record. From 2004-08 Van Wyk was also involved with Future Stars Basketball, serving as a coach for Future Stars club teams and providing instruction at camps. He was named the Future Stars summer program coach of the year in 2004, 2005, 2007 and 2008.

This past year he coached Iowa Magic Basketball’s age 19-and-under club squad.

Active in the Iowa Basketball Coaches Association, Van Wyk received the Roushar-Evans Service Award from the IBCA in 2008.

“We’re excited to have Coach Van Wyk join the program,” said head coach Mike Boschee. “He will provide a great deal of experience to our staff and has a great passion for the game of basketball. I also think he will be a big help in the recruiting process.”

Van Wyk is also employed by Pella Corporation.
