Oct. 14, 2009Another late setback for Central
PELLA—It was yet another disheartening finish for the Central College men’s soccer team Wednesday, as the Univ. of Dubuque struck for the game’s only goal with just 1:05 remaining for a 1-0 decision.
Central, which had dropped its previous three games in overtime, fell to 5-8 overall and 0-4 in the Iowa Conference.
Central outshot the Spartans 19-18. Goalkeeper Quincy Garner (junior, Pella), filling in following last week’s injury to Jonathan Glassman (sophomore, Lakeville, Minn., North HS), made four saves.
Dubuque (11-1-2 overall, 4-0 conference) got the gamewinner from Idrissa Soumaoro, his fifth goal of the season.
Central travels to Mount Vernon Saturday for a women’s-men’s league doubleheader at Cornell College. The women’s game starts at 1 p.m. with the men’s game at 3 p.m.
