PELLA—Central College remains No. 8 in the American Football Coaches Association Division III poll.
The Dutch (5-0 overall, 3-0 Iowa Conference) are No. 9 in the D3football.com poll. Wartburg and Coe are among those schools receiving votes.
Central defeated Cornell College Saturday 55-0 and travels to Indianola Saturday to take on Simpson College in a 1 p.m. league game.
Wong fifth in NCAA stat rankings—Central defensive lineman Shane Wong (junior, Pleasant Hill, Southeast Polk HS) has moved into a tie for fifth in quarterback sacks in the latest NCAA Division III statistical rankings. Wong had three sacks against Cornell Saturday and has eight for the season, an average of 1.60 per game. Teammate Aaron Steenhoek (junior, Pella) is tied for 29th at 1.10. Steenhoek is also tied for 17th in tackles for loss (2.00) with Wong tied for 25th (1.90).
Receiver Mike Furlong (sophomore, Davenport, Assumption HS) is 18th in kickoff returns (29.17 yards) and running back David Zachary (senior, Des Moines, Dowling HS) is 25th in rushing yards (113.60).
In team statistics the Dutch are fifth in kickoff returns (27.21 yards), eighth in sacks (3.80), 10th in rushing defense (55.80 yards), 14th in rushing offense (266.20 yards) and 25th in scoring defense (14.20 points).
