Oct. 1, 2009Big second half powers Millikin
DECATUR, ILL.—Millikin (Ill.) broke open a tight game with three second-half goals and posted a 4-0 win over the Central College women’s soccer team Thursday.
Competing on a soggy field in steady rain, the Dutch (1-9) were outshot 36-3. Millikin (7-3-1) took a 1-0 lead with a score in the 20th minute, then picked up additional goals in the 49th and 54th minutes before completing the scoring with 10:23 remaining.
Central goalkeeper Shelby Austin (freshman, Wichita, Kan., Goddard HS) made 13 saves.
The Dutch open Iowa Conference action Saturday at Loras College in Dubuque with a women’s-men’s doubleheader. The women kick off at 1 p.m. with the men’s game following at 3:30 p.m.
Loras, 6-4-1 overall, is 1-0 in the league. The Duhawks rolled up an 8-0 victory at Central last fall and hold a 10-2 advantage in the teams’ all-time series. It will be Central’s sixth consecutive road game. The Dutch have one more game away from home next week before returning to meet Wartburg next Saturday, Oct. 10.
